The school day and getting around
What does a school day look like?
Each day is broken up into 6 lessons which are 55 minutes long. The pips will sound to let you know when a lesson starts, ends or if it is break or lunchtime. You will move between different classrooms for each lesson, so you will need to make sure you pack up your bag and take everything with you to each class. If you do happen to lose something we keep lost property at reception so pop there at break or lunch to see if you can find it.
Below is a timetable similar to what you will be given so that you can see what a typical fortnight will look like. Your timetable will be a 2-week timetable, meaning you will have different lessons over a two week period. You will carry your timetable with you in your blazer so that you can easily check which lessons you have. Lots of your lessons will be with the same students, so you will often be able to walk together to your next lesson.
PD (Personal Development) may be a new subject to you. It explores the world around us and asks us questions such as, ‘How do I fit into the world?’ or ‘Am I responsible for my own mental and physical health?’
Getting around
The Whitstable School may be a lot larger than your primary school, but don't worry - all of our new pupils say it doesn't take long to help them find their way around. To start with you may want to use the map that we will give you.
Our staff and other pupils are always on hand to show you the way if you feel a little lost. Don't worry, just ask.
